The 2011–12 season marked Milan’s 78th campaign in Serie A and their 29th consecutive year in Italy’s top football division. As defending champions, Milan sought to secure back-to-back Serie A titles. Despite a shaky start, they built a four-point lead over Juventus by March. However, in the final stretch of the season, Milan faltered, securing just five wins in their last nine matches, while Juventus surged with a near-perfect finish, winning ten and drawing one of their final eleven games. This allowed Juventus to reclaim the lead and ultimately win the title by four points.
Milan’s season began on a high note, with the team winning the Supercoppa Italiana, defeating Internazionale 2–1. In European competition, they reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Barcelona. Milan also competed in the Coppa Italia but were knocked out by Juventus in the semi-finals.
Zlatan Ibrahimović was Milan’s standout player, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 28 goals in Serie A and 35 goals in all competitions. His prolific performances were central to Milan’s attacking strength throughout the season.
