The 1994–95 season was a turbulent but historic campaign for AEK Athens, who entered the year after three consecutive league titles with ambitions of making an impact in Europe. They famously eliminated Rangers to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, where they faced Ajax, AC Milan, and Salzburg, finishing fourth in a difficult group. Domestically, AEK finished fifth in the league and reached the Greek Cup final, where they controversially lost 1–0 to Panathinaikos after a disputed late penalty. Despite the disappointing domestic results, the season was highlighted by Dimitris Saravakos’ 26 goals in all competitions and AEK’s memorable return to Europe’s elite.
