The 2010–11 season saw Bayern Munich undergo significant mid-season changes both on and off the field. The club made notable moves in the winter transfer window, acquiring Luiz Gustavo from Hoffenheim while sending David Alaba on loan to the same club. Martín Demichelis was sold to Málaga, and captain Mark van Bommel departed for Milan after requesting to be released. Additionally, Edson Braafheid joined Hoffenheim permanently, and Maximilian Haas moved to Middlesbrough.
Under Louis van Gaal, Bayern won the DFL-Supercup but struggled in other competitions, leading to his departure in April. Andries Jonker took over as interim manager.
