The 1994–95 season was a transitional and bittersweet campaign for Celtic under the management of Tommy Burns. Competing in the Scottish Premier Division, this season was notable for being the last time Celtic did not participate in European competition. The team faced a challenging league campaign and finished in 4th place, falling short of their traditional rivals.

Despite their league struggles, Celtic enjoyed success in the domestic cup competitions. In the Scottish Cup, they ended a six-year trophy drought with a memorable victory, defeating Airdrieonians 1–0 in the final. Pierre van Hooijdonk scored the decisive goal, etching his name into Celtic folklore and giving the fans a long-awaited piece of silverware.

In the Scottish League Cup, Celtic came close to securing another trophy but fell short in the final, losing to Raith Rovers in a penalty shootout after a 2–2 draw.

The 1995–96 season saw Celtic compete under Tommy Burns’ management in the Scottish Premier Division and various cup competitions. The team showed impressive resilience in the league, losing just once all season. However, they finished second, four points behind rivals Rangers.

In cup competitions, Celtic’s performances were less impressive. In the Scottish Cup and League Cup, the team was eliminated by Rangers, with the semi-final and quarter-final exits respectively adding to the season’s disappointments. On the European stage, Celtic participated in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup but were eliminated in the second round by Paris Saint-Germain, the eventual winners of the tournament.

Despite these setbacks, Pierre van Hooijdonk emerged as a standout player, finishing the season as Celtic’s top scorer with 26 goals in all competitions.
