In the 2024 Copa América final, Colombia came agonizingly close to winning their second title but fell to Argentina 1-0 after extra time. The tightly contested match, held in Miami, remained scoreless through regulation. Despite Colombia’s strong defensive efforts and several missed opportunities, including late-game chances from Miguel Borja and Juan Quintero, Lautaro Martínez scored the decisive goal for Argentina in the 111th minute, clinching their 16th Copa América title.
Colombia’s campaign was nonetheless remarkable. They progressed through the group stage and knocked out tough opponents, including Uruguay in the semifinals. James Rodríguez, in particular, stood out and was awarded the Best Player of the Tournament. James registered six assists, surpassing Lionel Messi’s record for the most assists in a single Copa América edition. His creative play and leadership were instrumental in Colombia’s strong run, though they ultimately fell just short of the championship.
