The 1984–85 season was a pivotal and tragic one for Juventus Football Club. Managed by Giovanni Trapattoni, Juventus finished 6th in Serie A, a position that fell short of their usual dominance but did not overshadow their European success. In the European Cup, Juventus achieved their long-awaited first triumph, defeating Liverpool 1–0 in the final at Heysel Stadium, Belgium. This victory was bittersweet, however, as the match was marred by the Heysel Stadium disaster, in which 39 people, mostly Juventus supporters, tragically lost their lives due to crowd violence before the match.

Despite the disaster, the team went on to win the European Super Cup, further cementing their European pedigree, even though the events of the final overshadowed their success. Domestically, Juventus reached the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia but could not make a significant impact on the competition.

The season also saw the impressive performances of Michel Platini, who finished as the team’s top scorer with 18 goals in Serie A, solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s finest playmakers during that era. The events of the Heysel disaster, however, cast a long shadow over the club’s achievements in 1985.
