The 2023–24 season marked the 129th year of existence for Manchester City Football Club and their 22nd consecutive season in the top flight of English football, where they entered as three-time defending champions. As reigning continental treble winners, City competed in seven competitions, including the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, FA Community Shield, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, making their debut in the latter two tournaments.
The season began on August 6, 2023, with City losing the Community Shield to Arsenal after a 1–1 draw, ultimately falling in the penalty shootout. However, they quickly redeemed themselves, clinching their first trophy on August 16 by defeating Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup final, marking their first triumph in that competition. City faced an early exit in the League Cup, knocked out by Newcastle United in the third round on September 27.
On December 22, they secured the FIFA Club World Cup, defeating Fluminense 4–0 in the final, making them the first English club to hold five major domestic and international titles simultaneously. Their Champions League title defense ended in the quarter-finals on April 17, 2024, when they were eliminated by Real Madrid after a penalty shootout, following a 4–4 aggregate draw.
Despite these setbacks, City successfully defended their Premier League title for an unprecedented fourth consecutive season, sealing the championship on the final day with a crucial 3–1 victory against West Ham United. In the FA Cup, City reached the final again but were defeated 1–2 by local rivals Manchester United, repeating the previous year’s matchup.
