The 2023–24 season was the 137th in the history of Manchester United, marking their 32nd season in the Premier League and their 49th consecutive in the top flight of English football. This campaign was significantly impacted by injuries, leading to a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League with a negative goal difference, their worst result since 1989–90. United faced early exits in the EFL Cup, losing in the fourth round to Newcastle United, and recorded their poorest performance ever in the Champions League, finishing bottom of their group with just four points. However, they found success in the FA Cup, reaching the final for the second consecutive year and defeating cross-city rivals Manchester City 2–1 in a surprising upset.

This season marked the first without long-serving goalkeeper David de Gea and defender Phil Jones, who left upon the expiration of their contracts. Initially, this left United without a Premier League winner in their squad for the first time since the league’s inception in 1992–93. The return of Jonny Evans, a three-time Premier League champion, restored that distinction. Additionally, on December 24, 2023, the club announced a deal with Sir Jim Ratcliffe to purchase a 25% stake, with the investment completed in February 2024, resulting in a 27.7% share acquisition by Trawlers Ltd.
