The 1998–99 season was a strong one for PAOK Thessaloniki, as the club finished fourth in the Greek Alpha Ethniki with 62 points from 34 matches, recording 19 victories, five draws and ten defeats. Under the management of Oleg Blokhin, Angelos Anastasiadis and Arie Haan at different stages of the campaign, PAOK scored 52 goals and conceded just 31, establishing themselves among Greece’s strongest sides. In the Greek Cup, however, they suffered a disappointing early exit in the Round of 16 after losing 1–0 to Panserraikos, while their UEFA Cup campaign ended in the qualifying rounds following elimination by Rangers. Kostas Frantzeskos and Pantelis Kafes were the club’s joint top scorers with eight goals each, as PAOK secured another fourth-place finish and qualification for the following season’s UEFA Cup
