The 2006–07 season marked Paris Saint-Germain’s 37th year in existence, with the team playing its home matches at the Parc des Princes in front of an average crowd of 36,360 fans. Under the presidency of Alain Cayzac, the campaign began with Guy Lacombe as head coach, before Paul Le Guen took over on 15 January 2007.
Pauleta captained the side and led the scoring charts with 15 league goals and 24 in all competitions. In Ligue 1, PSG endured a difficult season, finishing 15th, while their cup runs were more promising: they reached the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France, the Round of 16 in both the Coupe de la Ligue and the UEFA Cup, and finished as runners-up in the Trophée des Champions.
