The 2023–24 season was a historic and triumphant campaign for Sporting CP, marking their 118th year of existence and their 90th consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football. Under head coach Rúben Amorim, Sporting achieved remarkable success domestically while competing in the Taça de Portugal, Taça da Liga, and UEFA Europa League.
The highlight of the season came on 5 May, when Sporting secured their 20th Primeira Liga title, their first since 2020–21, with two matches to spare. This was confirmed after rivals Benfica suffered a 2–0 defeat to Famalicão. Sporting’s league campaign was record-breaking, as they amassed 90 points—the highest in club history—and achieved 29 wins, including an unprecedented 100% win record in home matches, winning all 17 games at Estádio José Alvalade.
In cup competitions, Sporting reached the final of the Taça de Portugal but fell short, finishing as runners-up. They also made it to the semi-finals of the Taça da Liga and the Round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League, showing strong performances on multiple fronts.
Viktor Gyökeres was a standout player, finishing as both the league’s and the team’s top scorer with 29 league goals and an incredible 43 goals across all competitions, cementing his place as a key contributor to Sporting’s success.
