Tensions between manager Harry Redknapp and chairman Terry Brown over transfer funds led to Redknapp’s departure on 9 May. Caretaker manager Glenn Roeder was appointed permanently. West Ham finished 15th in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup quarter-finals. Frédéric Kanouté was the top scorer with 14 goals across all competitions, including 11 in the league.
