During the 1999–2000 and 2000–01 seasons, FC Bayern Munich experienced a period of remarkable success under manager Ottmar Hitzfeld.
In the 1999–2000 campaign, which marked the club’s 100th season, Bayern secured a domestic treble. They clinched their second consecutive Bundesliga title, lifted the DFB-Pokal, and also won the DFB-Ligapokal for the third year in a row. Their European journey saw them reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, falling just short of a final appearance. Giovane Élber was the top scorer in the league with 14 goals, while Paulo Sérgio led the team overall with 21 goals across all competitions.
The following season, 2000–01, was even more historic. Bayern won their third straight Bundesliga title, further cementing their dominance in German football. However, the defining achievement of the season came in Europe. After the heartbreak of their last-minute defeat to Manchester United in the 1999 final, Bayern finally captured their long-awaited UEFA Champions League title—ending a 25-year drought in the competition. While they won the DFB-Ligapokal again, their DFB-Pokal run ended early with a second-round exit. Giovane Élber was once again the team’s leading scorer, with 15 goals in the league and 21 overall.
Together, these two seasons represented a golden era for Bayern Munich, combining domestic dominance with a return to European glory.
