The 2025 season marked Boca Juniors’ 97th consecutive year in Argentina’s top flight, with a demanding calendar that included the domestic league (split into Torneo Apertura and Clausura), Copa Argentina, Copa Libertadores, and the expanded FIFA Club World Cup. The team began the season under Fernando Gago, but a string of underwhelming results led to his departure on April 29. Mariano Herrón stepped in as interim manager until Miguel Ángel Russo—a familiar and experienced figure at the club—took over on June 2, aiming to stabilize the team for the remainder of the campaign.
On the field, Boca reached the quarterfinals of the Torneo Apertura, showing moments of promise but falling short of a title challenge. In the Copa Argentina, the team was eliminated in the Round of 32, and in the Copa Libertadores, they exited in the second stage, marking an early end to their continental hopes. Boca also competed in the new-format Club World Cup, but their run ended in the group stage. Offensively, Milton Giménez and Miguel Merentiel led the team in scoring, each netting 5 goals across all competitions, with 4 apiece in the league.
