Between 1992 and 1995, Boca Juniors experienced a period of transition marked by high expectations, managerial changes, and near misses. The club assembled talented squads and made significant investments but struggled to convert potential into major titles. Under Óscar Tabárez, Boca came close to glory in the 1992 Apertura, finishing second behind Diego Simeone’s Vélez Sarsfield. The team remained competitive but lacked the consistency to dominate the league.

In 1993, César Luis Menotti took over, followed by Jorge Habegger, but neither could bring sustained success. Boca did find some continental joy in 1994, winning the Copa Master de Supercopa, a short tournament featuring former Supercopa champions. The arrival of stars like Claudio Caniggia, Alberto Márcico, and Kily González, along with the continued brilliance of Navarro Montoya in goal, raised hopes. However, instability in the dugout and inconsistent league form kept the team from ending their long domestic title drought, which would stretch until 1998. The 1992–95 era is remembered as a time of promise that fell just short of fulfillment.
