The 2022–23 season was Borussia Dortmund’s 114th year of existence and their 47th consecutive season competing in the Bundesliga. The team also took part in the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.
This season marked a transitional period for the club as it was the first since 2007–08 without long-time stalwart Marcel Schmelzer, who retired at the end of the previous campaign. Under head coach Edin Terzić, Dortmund finished as Bundesliga runners-up, narrowly missing out on the title. They reached the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal and exited the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16.
Offensively, Dortmund had a balanced scoring contribution in the league, with Julian Brandt, Sébastien Haller, and Donyell Malen each scoring nine goals. Across all competitions, Jude Bellingham emerged as the team’s standout performer, leading the club in scoring with 14 goals while solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
