The 2007–08 season was eventful for Chelsea, with José Mourinho leaving early on and Avram Grant taking over. Despite going unbeaten at home, Chelsea finished second in the Premier League and lost an agonizing UEFA Champions League final to Manchester United on penalties. They were runners-up in the League Cup and Community Shield and reached the FA Cup sixth round. Lack of silverware led to Avram Grant’s dismissal shortly after the Champions League defeat.
