In their 42nd straight year in Greece’s top flight, Panathinaikos enjoyed a strong 2000/01 campaign under manager Giannis Kyrastas. The club finished 2nd in the Alpha Ethniki, reached the Greek Cup quarter-finals, and impressed in Europe by advancing to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Star striker Krzysztof Warzycha led the scoring with 19 goals in all competitions, continuing his reputation as a club legend.
