The 2001–02 season marked Paris Saint-Germain’s 32nd in existence, with Luis Fernández at the helm as head coach and Frédéric Déhu as captain. PSG played their home matches at the Parc des Princes, averaging an attendance of 41,040 fans.

Domestically, PSG finished 4th in Division 1, falling short of the title but securing a UEFA Cup spot. They reached the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France and the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue. On the European front, PSG won the Intertoto Cup, their only silverware of the season, but exited the UEFA Cup in the third round.

Ronaldinho shone in his first season with the club, finishing as the team’s joint-top scorer in the league with Fabrice Fiorèse, each netting eight goals. Across all competitions, Ronaldinho led with 13 goals, providing glimpses of his future brilliance. Despite falling short in domestic competitions, the Intertoto Cup victory and a strong league finish were highlights of a transitional season for the club.
