The 2017–18 season marked Paris Saint-Germain’s 45th year in existence and their 44th consecutive season in the top flight of French football. Under head coach Unai Emery, PSG dominated domestically, winning the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, and Trophée des Champions. The club also made headlines by breaking the world transfer record with the acquisition of Neymar for €222 million. However, PSG’s run in the UEFA Champions League ended in the Round of 16. Edinson Cavani was the club’s top scorer, netting 28 goals in Ligue 1 and 40 in all competitions.
