In the 1992–93 season, Paris Saint-Germain reached historic heights, led by Bernard Lama in goal and a strong squad featuring George Weah, Alain Roche, and Vincent Guérin. PSG made their first-ever European semifinal, overcoming PAOK, Napoli, and Anderlecht before facing Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup quarterfinals. After a dramatic 3–0 second-leg comeback, capped by Antoine Kombouaré’s legendary header, PSG advanced to the semifinals but were eliminated by Juventus.
Domestically, PSG triumphed in the 1993 Coupe de France, defeating Nantes 3–0 in the final, with an impressive record of not conceding a single goal throughout the competition. This victory marked the club’s first trophy since 1986.
The season also birthed the intense rivalry “Le Classique” with Marseille, with PSG finishing second in Division 1 after a heated battle with OM. Despite Marseille being stripped of their title for match-fixing, PSG declined the trophy, leading to ongoing tension between the two clubs.
Manager Artur Jorge guided the team to a standout season, with George Weah as the top scorer, netting 14 goals in the league and 23 in all competitions.
