In the 2002–03 season, Real Madrid won La Liga under Vicente del Bosque but unexpectedly parted ways with him afterward. Despite winning the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup, they were knocked out of the Champions League semi-finals by Juventus and eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Mallorca. Ronaldo was the top scorer with 30 goals across all competitions. The season marked the return of the purple third kits and a new shirt sponsor, Siemens Mobile.
