The 2023–24 season marked Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s 120th year and 90th consecutive season in the top tier of Portuguese football. Managed by Roger Schmidt, Benfica entered the campaign as defending Primeira Liga champions.
The season started strongly with a 2–0 win over Porto in the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, securing an early trophy. However, in the Primeira Liga, Benfica was unable to defend their title, finishing in second place, just behind rivals Porto.
In domestic cup competitions, Benfica reached the semi-finals of both the Taça da Liga and the Taça de Portugal, but ultimately fell short of winning any additional trophies. On the European stage, Benfica participated in the UEFA Champions League group stage but failed to progress further. They then moved into the UEFA Europa League, where they were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Rafa Silva was the standout performer for Benfica, finishing as the team’s top scorer with 14 goals in the league and 22 across all competitions.
