The 2011–12 season marked Arsenal’s 20th Premier League campaign and 125th anniversary. After a poor start, they finished 3rd, securing a Champions League spot. They were eliminated early in both the FA Cup and League Cup, and their Champions League run ended in the Round of 16. Robin van Persie was the top scorer with 37 goals in all competitions, including 30 in the league. This season also saw Arsenal finish ahead of Chelsea in the league for the first time since their “Invincibles” season.
