The 2005–06 season was Real Madrid’s 75th in La Liga and marked the second consecutive trophyless season, a rarity since the early 1980s. Under President Florentino Pérez, who resigned mid-season, the club went through managerial instability, with Vanderlei Luxemburgo dismissed in December and replaced by Juan Ramón López Caro. Real finished 2nd in La Liga, reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals, and exited the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16. Ronaldo was the top scorer with 15 goals across all competitions.
